AI SEO Sydney —
Get Cited by ChatGPT, Claude & Google AI

Traditional SEO gets you ranked. AI SEO gets you cited.

If your Sydney business isn’t showing up inside ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, or Google’s AI Overviews, you’re invisible to a fast-growing chunk of your customers — even if you rank on page one of Google. No agency layers. No outsourced writers. Direct work with the person who understands how these models actually pick their sources.

The Shift

Sydney search isn’t what it was18 months ago

Google has rolled out AI Overviews across Australia. AI Mode is live. ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity are now genuine discovery channels — people ask them for “best physio in Chatswood” or “Sydney Shopify developer” and act on the answer without ever clicking a blue link.

AI Overviews now appear on a significant share of commercial-intent queries in Australia, and the trend is only going one way.

The pattern I keep seeing

  • Organic rankings are fine. Sometimes top three.
  • Traffic is holding up, more or less.
  • But enquiries have quietly dropped.

That’s visibility without selectability. You rank. You’re just not the answer AI gives. AI SEO is how you fix that.

Definition

What AI SEOActually Is

Also called AI search optimisation — the practice of making your website easy for AI systems to understand, trust, and cite. Three overlapping layers.

Traditional SEO

Still the foundation. Crawlability, page speed, backlinks, helpful content. None of this goes away.

GEO — Generative Engine Optimisation

Getting cited inside ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and other LLM answers. Entity-first, citation-ready content.

AEO — Answer Engine Optimisation

Appearing inside Google AI Overviews, featured snippets, and voice assistant answers. Question-led, direct-answer content.

“AI SEO is optimising your site so that both humans and AI systems pick it as the best answer.”

Under the Hood

How AI ModelsActually Pick Sources

Most Sydney SEO agencies can’t explain this properly — they’re marketers who’ve bolted “AI” onto existing packages. It changes what actually moves the needle.

1

Training-corpus citation

The model was trained on a snapshot of the web and learned who you are. Updates lag by months. Long game: authority, mentions, and entity consistency across the whole web.

2

Live retrieval (RAG)

The model runs a real-time search, pulls a few pages, and summarises them. Perplexity, ChatGPT search, Claude with web search, and Google AI Overviews all work this way. Technical game: be the clearest, best-structured, most citable page right now.

What AI can evaluate

  • Entity consistency (same “you” everywhere)
  • Structured data and schema
  • Source authority and publication reputation
  • Clarity and factual density
  • Unambiguous claims, dates, numbers, definitions

What AI can’t evaluate

  • Design quality
  • Animations and visual polish
  • Marketing tone
  • How much you spent on the agency that built the site

Short, declarative, fact-dense writing gets cited. Flowery “we unlock your brand’s potential” agency copy doesn’t. The models are looking for something they can quote without risk — give them that, and they’ll pick you over a prettier competitor.

Why Sydney

Why This Matters forSydney Businesses Specifically

The AU market is still early

Most Sydney businesses — and a surprising number of Sydney SEO agencies — haven't done serious GEO or AEO work yet. The competitive window is open in a way it won't be by late 2026.

Suburb-level AI search is growing fast

When someone asks ChatGPT or Gemini for "a good dog groomer near Hornsby" or "Shopify developer in Sydney's North Shore," the AI needs suburb-specific signals to pick a winner. Most local sites don't provide them properly.

Privacy and data sovereignty matter

Australian Privacy Act rules apply if AI tooling touches customer data. For healthcare, legal, financial services, or any regulated industry, the implementation details matter.

Being based in Sydney means I actually understand what “local” looks like across Greater Sydney, not just as a footer tagline.

Services

AI SEO ServicesI Offer

Technical, content, and entity work — delivered end to end.

AI Visibility Audit

Baseline report of exactly how your business currently appears across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews for your target queries. Raw transcripts, ranked gaps, prioritised fix list.

Technical AI SEO

Hand-written schema (Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, FAQ, Article, BreadcrumbList), proper JSON-LD, semantic HTML, Core Web Vitals, llms.txt, and correct robots directives for GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, OAI-SearchBot.

GEO — Generative Engine Optimisation

Content restructured so LLMs can cite it cleanly. Entity-first writing, factual density, unambiguous claims, authoritative sources. This is where most of the actual citation wins come from.

AEO — Answer Engine Optimisation

Targeting Google AI Overviews, featured snippets, and voice-assistant answers. Question-led content architecture, concise direct-answer paragraphs, schema that matches query intent.

Entity & Authority Building

Wikidata and (where appropriate) Wikipedia presence, knowledge-graph entity consolidation, author-level E-E-A-T signals, citation and mention campaigns. The long-game work that compounds.

Local AI SEO

Google Business Profile optimisation, local schema, suburb-level content, citation consistency. Designed for the specific way AI answers local "near me" queries across Greater Sydney.

Technical

What AgenciesCan’t Do

This is where being a developer, not a marketer, actually matters. Most Sydney SEO agencies use off-the-shelf plugins for schema, rely on Yoast or RankMath defaults, and hand content fixes to junior copywriters.

That’s fine for baseline SEO. Not enough for AI SEO — the problems are usually at the template, data, and rendering layers.

My stack is TypeScript, React, Go. 15+ years of production code. If your technical SEO issues are actually front-end or back-end problems (and they usually are), you don’t need an agency, a copywriter, and a dev shop. You need one person who can do all three.

What I do directly

  • Write schema and JSON-LD by hand, tuned to each page type — not generated by a plugin
  • Implement llms.txt properly so AI crawlers know what to prioritise
  • Audit server-rendered vs client-rendered content (lots of React/Next.js/Shopify sites look fine to humans but serve half-empty pages to AI crawlers)
  • Refactor templates for clean semantic HTML where needed
  • Edit Shopify Liquid, React/Next.js components, WordPress themes, Webflow custom code — whatever your site runs on
  • Set up tracking for AI citation mentions, not just keyword rankings
Measurement

How I MeasureAI SEO Results

Traditional metrics (still matter)

  • Keyword rankings
  • Organic traffic
  • Conversions and enquiries

AI-specific metrics

  • AI Overview inclusions

Which queries trigger an AI Overview, and whether you appear in it

  • LLM citation tracking

Monthly runs of target queries against ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity — logging whether your brand appears and in what context

  • Brand mention frequency

How often you show up in model outputs over time

  • Share of answer

Your coverage on priority queries vs named competitors

Honest caveat: LLM citation tracking is still a maturing field. Tools are improving month by month and no one has perfect coverage yet. I’ll tell you what’s measurable, what’s directional, and what’s genuinely uncertain. No dashboards dressed up as certainty.
